Soft Tissue Injuries<\/h3>\n

When your gums, lips, or cheeks sustain an injury, the first thing to do is to stop the bleeding. You can do this by applying light pressure with a cold compress. A Broken or Dislodged Tooth<\/h3>\n

For a tooth that has been broken or chipped, please gather all the pieces you can and contact our office right away. For a tooth that\u2019s been knocked out or dislodged, time is of the essence. Please contact Summer Creek Dentistry immediately as we have the best chance of preserving your tooth within an hour of your injury.<\/p>\n

Transport your tooth carefully. If it can be replaced into its socket, this is the best option. If not, transport it in a cup of milk in order to keep the cells alive and moist. Don\u2019t try to clean it or handle the tooth too much.<\/p>\n

An Abscessed or Infected Tooth<\/h3>\n

A tooth that is abscessed will typically cause you constant and severe pain. This may have started with sensitivity to hot and cold food or drinks. A tooth that is infected also needs immediate care, as you are at risk of tooth loss and the infection spreading to other critical areas of the body. Please note that an infection or abscess will not go away on its own.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re proactive about a dental infection, root canal therapy can often preserve your tooth. Dr. Jasmine Coleman<\/a> can remove the infected pulp through a small hole drilled in the top of your tooth. Once the infection is removed, she\u2019ll temporarily seal your tooth and give it time to heal. After the appropriate healing time, your tooth will need to be restored with a permanent filling or dental crown, as unfortunately it\u2019s not as strong as it once was prior to the infection.<\/p>\n
